CitizenLab publishes its Voter’s Guide for a participatory democracy in Mauritania
AfricTivistes CitizenLab Mauritania published the Mauritanian Voter’s Guide ahead of the elections including the legislative, regional and municipal elections this May, in order to make practical information on the electoral process in the country accessible.
As active stakeholders and civic leaders, the CitizenLab team produced the Mauritanian Voter’s Guide, a product that falls within the first area of intervention of the innovation laboratory, namely civic education.
Elections, which legitimise political power, are one of the pillars of democratic governance. Therefore, the guide is also an information tool on citizen participation for a better democracy. Thanks to the support of AfricTivistes, this work addresses the entire voting process, from registration on the electoral roll, voting materials, the compositiion of polling stations to the transmission of reports and the resolution of disputes.
This guide also responds to a request from Mauritanian civil society to make practical information on the electoral process available.
The awareness of the need for citizen participation is currently growing in Mauritania. With the democratisation of internet access and digital tools, citizens are taking part in public debate and are becoming increasingly involved in their communities.
Mauritanian civil society can take advantage of this ongoing revolution that encourages innovation to create a network of committed actors to find answers to the country’s socio-political issues.
As a force proposing innovative solutions through empowerment co-construction and collaboration, it is within this framework that AfricTivistes has set up this inclusive citizen innovation hub representing the diversity and splendour of Mauritania, including all communities through their respective languages, notably Hassania, Pulaar, Sooninké and Wolof.
