Sahel Insight

Burkina FasoNigerSénégalTchad

Objective(s)

To promote best practices and citizen engagement in support of public policies designed to reduce inequality in the Sahel, by strengthening collaboration between Sahelian CSOs and local authorities.

Overview

Sahel Insight is a project aimed at tackling inequality in the Sahel through the training of civil society actors and the roll-out of digital advocacy campaigns. Launched in December 2021, it was implemented in two phases in Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso and Senegal. The project equipped 75 young Sahel activists and culminated in the production of the documentary film “Sahel à Égalité” in October 2024.

Context

The Sahel faces profound challenges: political instability, a security crisis, poverty and glaring inequalities in access to essential services — water, electricity, healthcare, education and budget information. These disparities stem in part from poor policies and chronic underinvestment in priority sectors.

Approach

The project is based on two complementary approaches: capacity-building for civil society actors (leadership, digital communication, advocacy, risk management, gender) and the roll-out of digital awareness-raising and advocacy campaigns led by Sahel Activists in their respective communities.
