AfricTivistes publishes the summary report of its third Summit, held in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) on 11, 12, and 13 November 2021, with the theme “Promoting the Development and Democratic Governance of the Internet in Africa.” Following Dakar in 2015 and Ouagadougou in 2018, the Abidjan edition provided a clear understanding of the maturity of the digital ecosystem on the continent and sparked discussions about possible future scenarios, as well as new African perspectives on the information society and cyberspace. There was also considerable focus on the systemic and institutional mechanisms for internet governance. The presence of numerous African and European delegations made this Summit a success. They consisted of web activists, change-makers, members of social movements, researchers and innovators, partners, bloggers, journalists, and other netizens. In total, 22 countries were represented. 20 institutions and partners enhanced the event with their presence. 120 participants attended the opening ceremony, and 111 participants took part in the opening panels. Additionally, 30 experts and resource persons also made the journey.
