Sénégal : Un Pouvoir, Deux Mandats — A Reflection on Senegalese Democracy
Objective(s)
To raise public awareness of the harmful consequences of failing to uphold the Constitution and the limits on presidential terms, by examining the history of democracy in Senegal and calling for a collective commitment to safeguarding democratic achievements.

Overview
“Senegal: One Power, Two Terms — A Mirror on Senegalese Democracy” is AfricTivistes’ first documentary film and the first deliverable of the eponymous project. It explores the trajectory of Senegalese democracy, focusing on the periods of political change in 2000 and 2012. Officially screened on 7 March 2024 during a viewing workshop attended by prominent figures from public and political life, it officially launched the “Senegal: One Power, Two Terms” project.
CONTEXT
Over the past decade, Senegal has experienced a marked decline in democratic standards: postponed elections, excessive presidential power, challenges to fundamental freedoms, and attempts to secure a third presidential term. Against this backdrop, AfricTivistes has sought to make term limits and the preservation of democratic gains a national and regional cause, engaging all sectors of society.
APPROACH
The film combines art and activism to hold up a mirror to Senegalese democracy. It traces the struggles for justice, freedom and good governance through the testimonies of political figures, civic leaders, journalists and influential thinkers. It is accompanied by a discussion workshop featuring three thematic panels to explore the issues raised in greater depth.
