Objective(s)
To provide financial and technical support for civic tech initiatives in the electoral sector led by young people and women, with a view to strengthening citizen participation, transparency and the integrity of electoral processes in Africa.

Overview
The Election Civic Tech Fund is a grant-making mechanism designed to support, encourage and promote innovative initiatives that strengthen citizen participation, transparency and the integrity of electoral processes in Africa.
Furthermore, the fund aims to encourage the emergence of electoral civic tech, boost participation among young people and women through technology, and support the emergence of new communities of stakeholders committed to electoral transparency
CONTEXT
Electoral violence has affected more than 50% of elections in sub-Saharan Africa since 1990. Studies such as AYIM and Sóobu reveal a chronic lack of financial and technical support for youth-led civic tech initiatives in the electoral sphere. This fund directly addresses this strategic gap by supporting young people aged 18 to 35, organised into groups, associations or registered start-ups, with a priority given to initiatives led by women.
APPROACH
The grants — ranging from €10,000 to €25,000 — fund projects in four priority areas: civic electoral technologies (40%), civic engagement and the electoral process (25%), media and information (20%), and the legal framework (15%). In addition to financial support, winners receive technical support to maximise their impact and foster synergies between stakeholders in the electoral civic tech ecosystem.
