#Keepiton Your voice can help put an end to internet censorship in Chad

For more than three months now, internet users in Chad have been unable to access social media networks such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter.

The reason is political: the Chadian government ordered telecommunications operators to restrict access to social media following the mass demonstrations that shook the country in 2016.

The United Nations recently adopted a resolution condemning internet shutdowns and disruptions, and affirming that human rights must be protected online and offline.

Civil society in Chad needs our support to help its government understand that the internet is a human right that must be protected. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Join the campaign on Thunderclap so that, on 18 July at 14:00 GMT+1, our message to the Chadian government is posted across all social media platforms.
  2. Sign and share the petition “Government of Chad, restore access to social media”, launched during a Facebook Live discussion between Chadian civil society and Internet Sans Frontières (watch it here).
  3. Invite other people and organisations to co-sign the open letter addressed to the Chadian government (already signed by many Chadian, African and international civil society organisations), and to join the Thunderclap campaign.
