It is with the deepest regret that AFRICTIVISTES, the African network of bloggers and cyber-activists for democracy, announces the postponement of its 3rd summit, #Nairobi2020, which was due to take place at the end of June 2020, due to circumstances beyond its control.

Since the announcement of the 3rd summit, to be held in East Africa, Africtivistes has been encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by its members and both long-standing and new partners. We have been working closely with the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE), which is hosting the 3rd summit.

However, following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which has affected more than 40 countries on the continent and many other countries around the world, preparations have been slowed down and some preparatory meetings and activities have been cancelled.

Africtivistes therefore concluded that, given the spread of this disease and its far-reaching and uncertain non-health-related implications, it would be preferable to postpone the third summit until June 2021.

Africtivistes is committed to the continent’s development, and it is essential to take the right steps to stay healthy in order to realise its full development potential.

Africtivistes would like to take this opportunity to commend its members for their commitment to supporting the response to COVID-19 in their respective countries through the many online and offline initiatives they have set up to raise awareness and ensure the protection of their communities.

We look forward to seeing you at our 3rd Africtivistes summit #Nairobi2021 in Kenya to build “the Africa of tomorrow, by us and for us”.

Africtivistes reaffirms its commitment to the continent’s development and stresses the importance of adhering to protective measures.
