AfricTivistes Citizen Lab Benin launches its magazine

On 24 November 2023, AfricTivistes launched its second CitizenLab in Benin, following an initial initiative in Mauritania. This is a citizen-led initiative aimed at promoting civic engagement and strengthening the capacities of Beninese civil society organisations in the field of participatory democracy.
On 17 April 2024, the team – comprising 15 young people from diverse backgrounds who are committed to promoting participatory democracy in Benin – published the first issue of their monthly magazine ACLB magazine. This publication comes at just the right time in a country where civil society is active, and helps to sustain the momentum for promoting civic engagement and democracy in the country.
This first issue therefore showcases young people in Benin who are actively engaged in issues relating to democracy, human rights and digital innovation, with a view to fostering effective citizen participation. It has been conceived and designed to highlight initiatives promoting citizen participation in Benin and the Menu of Possible Commitments of the Youth and Democracy Cohort.
It is important to note that the AfricTivistes CitizenLab programme is a civic initiative whose aim is to support, guide and equip African civil society actors in each country through training, the development of tools, and support for innovation and co-creation.
These empowered stakeholders implement digital solutions to enhance citizen participation and strengthen civil society’s capacity for civic engagement and participation. As well as being a programme designed to accelerate young people’s participatory engagement, the programme also serves as a hub for innovation, the production of valuable content and advocacy, drawing on digital projects dedicated to democracy.
The programme is implemented by AfricTivistes with the involvement and participation of the AfricTivistes network in the target countries, civil society organisations and media professionals from the various countries, based on a policy of access to information.
